Microvessel density is as a prognostic factor in canine cutaneous mast cell tumors

چکیده
Background Mast cell tumors represent almost 25% of canine skin neoplasms. These tumors are classified in three grades of differentiation, based on histological features. However, this grading system is a method based on subjective parameters, which generate intraand interobserver variations. The microcirculation is an important feature to the primary tumor expansion, dissemination and metastasis, and there are essential evidences that increasing microvessel density is associated with short survival disease-free intervals. The purpose of the present study was to verify the prognostic value of the intratumoral microvessel density (IMVD) in a set of canine cutaneous mast cell tumors.

Canine Cutaneous Mast Cell Tumor: Biologic Behavior and Its Correlation with Prognostic Indicators
Cutaneous mast cell tumor (MCT) shows a variable biological behavior in dogs and may present either as solitary masse that can be treated and cured with surgical removal or as a systemic metastatic and fatal disease. Histological grade, KIT pattern and proliferative index are typically prognostic factors in MCTs. In the present study, we have investigated correlation between clinical data (bree...
متن کاملTumor microvessel density–associated mast cells in canine nodal lymphoma
OBJECTIVE Mast cells are associated in angiogenesis in various human and animal neoplasms. However, association of mast cells with tumor microvessel density in canine lymphoma was not previously documented. The objective of the study is to determine if mast cells are increased in canine nodal lymphomas and to evaluate their correlation with tumor microvessel density and grading of lymphomas. ...
متن کاملDensity of mast-cells and Microvessels Density in head and neck cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Background and Aim: Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) is the second most common skin cancer. Mast cells may play a role in tumor progression and metastasis by increasing angiogenesis. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of mast cells by increasing angiogenesis in invasion of head and neck cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional stud...
متن کاملVCS/ACVP Oncology-Pathology Working Group Summary and Subgroup Recommendation for Grading of Canine Cutaneous Mast Cell Tumors Species/Tumor: CANINE CUTANEOUS MAST CELL TUMOR SUBGROUP
Introduction: The cornerstone for the prognosis of canine cutaneous mast cell tumor has been the histological grade. A critical appraisal of the available literature can help pathologists and clinicians better understand the values and limitations of histological grading. The first consensus document of the OPWG on the histological grading of cutaneous mast cell tumors was divulgated in 2013. S...
متن کاملCanine mast cell tumours: a review of the pathogenesis, clinical features, pathology and treatment.
Mast cells (MCs) are well known for their neoplastic transformation in solitary and multiple cutaneous mast cell tumours (MCTs), as well as visceral and systemic mastocytosis. Dogs have a unique risk of developing cutaneous MCTs, and they account for 7% to 21% of all canine skin tumours. The aetiology of canine MCTs is unknown but is probably multifactorial. This article reviews up-to-date know...
